Red Demon is my debut science fantasy novel coming out Aug 19. Not that you should trust me, but I have it on good authority that it doesn’t suck.
But books need to hit about 50 reviews on major platforms before they have any hope of organic momentum. With 48 days before launch, I have 2 reviews on Goodreads so far, and a little over half the ARC readers I think I need to hit that target.
Can you share some posts and tag some SFF friends to help me get there?
Requirements
Be a legal adult in a country where my book isn’t illegal for having queer characters.
Follow me (anywhere): You can follow me on either IG, Bluesky, Threads, and (begrudgingly) Facebook, as well as the monthly to quarterly non-spammy email newsletter on sillauthor.com.
Pinky swear that you are bookish, and ideally like fantasy and/or sci-fi . This includes primarily romantasy readers who like hard SFF selectively. I think I can win most of you over. 😬
Pinky swear that you are not a bigot. My MC is a bi dude. I get weird DMs about that, and I don’t want more. By “not a bigot,” I mean you believe people should have equal opportunities and rights regardless of sex, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability status.
Must either comment on a social media post telling me how many entries I owe you, or email sill@oriapress.com with “Red Demon Giveaway” in the header to tell me the number of entries I owe you. Honor system—although I will confirm entry count before announcing winners.
Prizes
First Prize (1): $75 USD gift card to an online bookseller of your choice and a laminate hardcover of Red Demon shipped to you. If you live in a country where I cannot find a way to ship a hardcover to you or you have pre-ordered or otherwise have a physical copy, you can opt for a $100 gift card to an online bookseller of your choice instead. U.S. residents will receive a signed hardcover with painted edges (special edition). International winners will receive a standard hardcover (~$28.99 value, varies in markets)
Second & Third Prize: $30 gift card to an online bookseller and a paperback book shipped to you. If you live in a country where I cannot find a way to ship to you or if you already preordered or own a physical copy,, I’ll add $20 to the gift card for a total of $50. U.S. residents will again receive painted edges and get a signed copy. International winners will receive a standard softcover.
Fourth Prize: My undying gratitude for helping me launch a book series that is old enough to drink. You are a good person. If I ever meet you in person, I will happily give you a dozen eggs from my backyard flock.
Entry Guidelines
As far as the number of entries: it is fine to award yourself points for something you haven’t done yet, as long as you follow through by midnight EDT/EST, July 19. Books ship to you on or shortly after release on Aug 19, and you will receive your gift card by that date through email or DM on social media.
1 entry for every friend you tag on this post who might like Red Demon. (1 bonus entry per person if you add why you think they’d like it.)
1 entry for reposting this contest.
1 entry for reposting any of my other Red Demon posts. (limit 1 per day during entry period).
1 entry for adding Red Demon to your Goodreads TBR.
1 entry for adding Red Demon to a wishlist (Amazon, Bookshop.org, Fable etc).
3 entries for sharing a single image or 200 character or less post on OTHER social networks and bookish spaces to help me find more ARC readers. Submit to as many platforms as you like! Socials, blogs, Reddit, youtube comments…anything that is allowed on the platform. Must share a link to sillauthor.com and mention ARCs, and explain that an ARC means a free advance review copy in exchange for an honest review.
10 entries for sharing a more detailed or personalized post on a bookish platform. This could be a 30-second+ video on social media, an audio clip on a podcast, a blog post, or something personalized and multiple images or slides. The post must mention that Oria Press is looking for Red Demon ARC readers and explain that this means a free book in exchange for an honest review. Here’s a link to my art folder if you want to grab the cover or reuse other elements!
10 entries for printing and putting up this flyer on a library or other community bulletin board. 1 flyer per location.. PS - The weirdest place I have this is in a men’s restroom stall. Thank you Garry’s Grill in Severna Park, MD for helping a local author try to balance out some very slanted ARC reader gender stats, since guys are less likely to be on bookstagram or shop at physical bookstores. Garry’s Grill, you are awesome beyond your salads and breakfast dishes
You know what? +20 Entries, a social media shoutout, and a signed thank you postcard for anyone else willing to put this flyer in another public bathroom stall, with permission, of course. I just wanna see if anyone will do it.

About Red Demon
High action, fast-paced, gritty science fantasy with a romantic subplot. Themes: trauma, resilience, redemption. Tropes: found family, enemies to lovers. For hard SFF readers: expect fresh neuroscience-y and mycological worldbuilding woven into a fantasy setting, with some geeking out about hand-to-hand weapon engineering. Romantasy readers enjoyed the book too, although expect the book not to feel character-driven until about 25% in, and 50% before the main romance arc kicks into gear. There is one spicy M/F scene. Skippable if not your thing.
Oria Press is giving out free ebooks to anyone willing to leave one or more review on bookish platforms (Goodreads, Amazon, Fable, Kobo, BarnesandNoble, Bookbub etc). Free physical review copies are also available to select editorial reviewers, bookish influencers, librarians, and booksellers. Please visit Sillauthor.com to apply for an advanced review copy (ARC) or to preorder a physical copy.
